Question: Does my baby need to wear socks?
Answer: Before your baby is mobile, they will not be needing much footwear. At home, it is best for them to move around barefoot. This will promote their development in several ways, including muscular and sensory development. If babies constantly wear socks, this can cause irritation of sensitive skin. I can even affect circulation, particularly dangerous in the case of newborns. However, if it is cold indoors or outdoors particularly in winter, socks are necessary to keep your baby’s feet warm and prevent uncomfortable friction with other footwear. In summer, socks are rarely necessary and can be extremely uncomfortable for babies. Socks should not be tight, and ideally, be slightly loose breathable cotton.
