10 Summer Must-Haves for Your Baby

You are here:

With recent days being filled with rain and storms we all know what time of year it is: summer! Yes, summer officially started on June 20 and although this summer will perhaps be slightly different to previous summers, this is the time of year many families have been looking forward to for so long. With the right kit, we can all enjoy a great summer, at home or away. Here’s 10 things you totally need to have the best of summers with your baby.

Must-Have #1: Kiddie Pool

On the hot days in summer (there will be at least one, we assure you), babies absolutely love having a splash around in a little pool. Very relaxing for parents too, you can keep an eye on the little one as they enjoy themselves, all without having to leave your back garden.

Must-Have #2: Swimsuits

Protecting skin from excess sunshine while keeping them cool, swimsuits are clearly a summer must-have. The best ones wash well and dry out extremely quickly.

Must-Have #3: Car Sun Shade

You’ll want to be doing some day trips away from home and it’s all too easy to end up with a lot of sun shining straight onto your baby’s face and body. With a simple and inexpensive car sun shade to cover the rear windows, you can protect little eyes from excess sunlight. Meshed ones are great for keeping out the glare but allowing a view outside.

Must-Have #4: Great Sunscreen

A lot of sunscreen and other lotions are full of chemicals that are really damaging to your baby’s skin, but with a bit of research you can find products that are more natural and designed for your little one’s skin. Please remember that sunscreen is not recommended for babies 6 months or younger.

Must-Have #5: Portable Highchair

We all know how challenging it is for younger babies to balance correctly and this makes eating away from home a real challenge. Perfect for beaches or other outdoor settings, a portable highchair allows you to give your baby or toddler their own space, and of course, gives you a little peace to enjoy your own picnic.

Must-Have #6: Water Shoes

Baby feet often blister easily even on relatively soft outdoor surfaces so water shoes are a great way to make walking around pools, beaches or other surfaces much more comfortable for them.

Must-Have #7: Baby Sun Blanket

As mentioned above, sunscreen isn’t suitable for the youngest babies, so what can you do? The answer is to cover up any exposed areas of skin with a light UV-blocking blanket. Soft and lightweight, they will protect your baby’s skin while not overheating them.

Must-Have #8: Baby Sunglasses

Clearly worth it just to make your baby look ultra-cool, baby sunglasses are really important for protecting their eyes. There are several great baby sunglass options on the market that are soft, stretchy, and baby-safe.

Must-Have #9: Short Sleeve Bodysuit

Layers are great the rest of the year, but in summer with rising temperatures the best solution is a sleeveless or short sleeve bodysuit. We have a great one available here, made from wonderful breathable organic cotton which is simply perfect for summer.

Must-Have #10: Outdoor Blanket

You’re probably going to spend a significant time sat outdoors this summer so it’s totally worth investing in a great outdoor blanket that’ll make your picnics so much more comfortable. Look for something that is not only comfortable, but also durable and water-resistant to ensure a stress-free time with the little one.
